Loon

This Loon isn't crazy, nor even foolish. This Loon is decisive!

The idea of using balloons for communication has been around for a long time. And balloons have been flown to 60,000 feet with reasonable control. Even the power and electronics is only state of the art. OK, the steering and coordination will be a sweet computer trick.

But the major contribution in this case is Google's bias to action - taking the risk. Most communication balloons have been carefully tethered in the past. Goggle has instead made LOTS of them, then simply set them free. They will then rely on computer technology to make them useful. I suspect this will be the most important communication breakthrough since the satellite. It will be fun to discover exactly how crazy this Loon isn't.
